Basic Officer Rescue Practices

Essential Skills for First-On-Scene Responders

April 28-29, 2025
TJC Tyler, Texas

Course Summary

Police officers are usually the first of the first responders to arrive on the scene of an emergency. They are often the first victims of assault.
Rescue operations must balance the medicine with the tactics to safely operate in the Care Under Threat Phase of Operations. This course covers unique topics such as the management of Acute Behavioral Emergencies, rapid evaluation and preservation of forensic evidence, in addition to more routine emergencies. These topics are not typically taught to civilian EMS providers, with whom close on-scene collaboration is required. These tasks must be accomplished in challenging, austere, and sometimes hostile environments.

This 2-day class is designed to build skills that reflect contemporary casualty care. Although the main audience is peace officers, unique rescue operations for rescue task force operations are included for fire/EMS and hospital personnel as well.
